|
So, for any of you who've been like "Ian, you're from Alaska. Tell me about this Palin chick who knows about Russia because she can see it from her house", I have a new informational video produced by Alaska Robotics, out of Juneau, Alaska (also, who happen to be people I went to college with). So, if you really wanna know why Alaskan's love Palin, look no further than http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N0cFWg6wtTI. Also, don't forget to duck... and cover! |

So, if you're feeling a little Nolstagic, or just want to be slightly interweb creeped out, I bring you good news that the google guys have visited Fairbanks (and Ester) and mapped it out on google maps street view! That's right, you yourself can see where some dark google van drove by your old hang outs or house and see pictures of the lawn, or that place that you did that thing that one time!

Sure, some may be pointless, like the ability to watch russian hamsters, 24/7... but others allow me to be both lazy and politically informed, a sexy combination.
Plus, as a coder, it means I have a playground for writing fun useless applications. I think my laptop needs a functional artificial horizon. |

Alternatively, you can go through 1 glass of lager in roughly 0.0004 seconds to achieve similar results.

As my news on all things Gaiman, why is it that I did not discover till now that this summer there is to be a Stardust movie, with Robert DeNiro, Claire Danes, Michelle Pfiffer, and even freak'n Peter O'Toole.
Any clue on who's composing the soundtrack yet? |

| | Weird Science - Oingo Boingo | ] | Oh yeah... meant to post this for those not in Alaska that might still have some interest in it's political scene.
After the primaries the 2006 Gubinatorial race will be between former Wasilla mayor Sarah Palin (R) and former Governer of Alaska ('94-'02') Tony Knowles (D). Well, there'll be some independents as well. But what's this mean?
A) There will actually be real issues affecting this election, with the majority of Republicans having to pick between a comparatively inexperienced female republican candidate, and an experienced male candidate who is a Democrat.
B) Murkowski lost the primary. Not only that, but he came in third. That's right John Binkley, the guy that runs the Riverboat Discovery took 11% more of the vote than Murkowski. And he's a noob. Murkowski didn't even get a FIFTH of the Republican vote. That kinda makes me smile.
Now for those of you who give a damn, what will happen with the gas line now that the current Governor is in lame duck status? Will the gas companies just wait for a new candidate to parlay with? Will Murkowski give in and make bad concessions just so he can say that he pushed the pipeline through? Will the situation actually work to Alaska's economic advantage and cause a realistic deal to get hammered out? Will the public continue to care or will some other hot-topic rage before November? Only time will tell. |

| | Emotion Sickness - Silverchair | ] | As many of you read FARK regularly, you probably already know about the upcoming animated Dragonlance Movie, so I won't bug you about that.
However, a little less known is that Henson productions has decided to capitalize on some of it's old assets.
Meaning sequals to both Labyrinth and Dark Crystal.
Now the Labyrinth Sequal, "Return to the Labyrinth" is supposedly about Toby returning after he turns 13... but rather than in a movie format... Henson studios is teaming up with Tokyopop to deliver our childhood repackaged in the new exciting format of "Manga"... It may seem odd that as an avid reader of comics that the word "manga" seems rather disturbing to me when packaged with something like Labyrinth, even more so when authors like Gaiman want to jump on board with a MirrorMask manga as well, but yeah... it still doesn't quite sit well with me.
And as for Dark Crystal... here's where there's hesitancy but also a possibility of utter awesomeness. The sequel, The Power of the Dark Crystal is due out in '08. In this one some fire girl steals a shard to try to reignite a dying sun. However, it's got Froud on board as the art director, legendary muppeteer Dave Goelz and a bunch of the original voice cast including the voices of Jen, Kira, Aughra, The Chamberlain, The General, etc.
Also Genndy Tartakovsky, of Samurai Jack fame is slated to direct.
So yeah. |
